First day at school.

Today was my first day at school. Seriously, it was. Well, OK, ish. I started my first day working as a Learning Mentor at a high school today so in a way it was. It's been 16 months since I last worked (woah! That means it's been 16 months since we met and brought home our children!) so I was more than a little nervous.

Before leaving for the adoption of our children I was a Connexions Adviser in the school I'm now a Learning Mentor. I was the lead adviser there for the entire time I worked for them, so 4 1/2 years. Before that I was a lecturer in a Further Education College for students with severe learning difficulties and disabilities for a year. And for 4 1/2 years before that, I was a primary teacher so I've always been involved in education in one way or another.

Last night, I was so nervous. I think I drove my husband mad going on and on about it, checking my bag, making sure I had my diary, pens, tea, mug, etc. This morning I was just as nervous but I had to get dressed, straighten my hair, get kids up and feed them and myself. My parents came at 7.55am to look after the children and off I went. Three meetings and one hot chocolate later and my first morning was over.

You see, I'm just doing 15 hours a week and can be flexible how I work them. So already I'm not working tomorrow as my two don't start school and playgroup until Wednesday so I'd like to get them ready and enjoy the last day of the holidays with them.

I enjoyed myself and still feel a little nervous as I have a lot of responsibility as Aim Higher co-ordinator and CAF co-ordinator - a lot to cover - as well as working with students and also doing some cover teaching when one teacher goes off for an operation.

World of work - are you listening? I'M BACK!
